Lucinda Fredricks on Headley Britannia leads on a score of 35.7
Husband Clayton may be holding the medals from WEG, but today Lucinda is definately showing good skills! ... A fabulous test and a Perfect 10 for her Halt!!!!
Bettina Hoy (GER) ranked 2nd on the leaderboard on the striking coloured horse Peaceful Warrior (no.28) broke the 40 penalties barrier with a score of 37.2, a lead of 4.1 penalties over her husband, Andrew Hoy (AUS) and his first ride Mr Pracatan (no. 16). Peaceful Warrior was formerly ridden to three-star level by British rider Chris King. With Bettina the part-bred 11 year old by Thoroughbred sire Doeskin completed Luhmuhlen four-star earlier this year. Not bad for a previous trainer’s hack from Lambourn UK!
Potential Rolex Grand Slam winner Andrew also impressed the judges with Anona Young’s homebred Thoroughbred Mr Pracatan with who Andrew was sixth here last year. Mr Pracatan is one of the two rides, the other is former Badminton and Burghley winner Moonfleet.“A Rolex Grand Slam is very special – after Pippa won it I didn’t think anyone could do it again,” said Andrew. “But my horses are ready and I have a job to do and just have to get on with it. I can only do my best.” Andrew and Bettina’s German dressage trainer, Dolf Dietram-Keller, a former German ‘professional riders’ champion was on hand to warm up his pupils. “Mr Practan performed good changes and the best extensions I’ve seem from him,” commented Dolf.
US Becky Holder shone on her Courageous Comet!
British riders fill the next three places with just 1.1 penalties separating British WEG squad debutant Oliver Townend and Topping, last year’s Burghley winners William Fox-Pitt and Ballincoola and Polly Stockton and Tangleman Rodney Powell and Liquid Ice start proceedings tommorrow Friday at 9.00 am.
